Basketball Game - 1/26/2013

Yesterday was another basketball game. This was the first one our girls lost. The score was 17-9. And about half of those points were scored from foul shots so it was a very aggressive game. One of our girls ended up with 4 fouls.

I am very pleased with how well Meredith is doing this year. She seems to have made great strides. Granted, I don't know much about basketball but I think next year is going to be HER year. Just in this game, she stole the ball, she took a shot at the basket (missed but she took the shot which, I think, is a first for her), caught a pass at arm's length, then (and most importantly) caught another pass, DRIBBLED THE BALL WHILE MOVING, and then passed it on. I've been waiting all year to see her dribble the ball! I was so excited for her.

I was afraid since she got smacked in the face with the ball at practice this week that she might be afraid of it today. My fears were unfounded. I'm going to try to keep her with this coach. He's very good ~ he's aware they are only 9-10 years old but he gets more aggressive with them as the year goes on. (I hate pansy coaches.)

WAY TO GO, MEREDITH!

Basketball Game & Girl Scouts

Meredith had a basketball game today. I had to work so I didn't get to go. She said they lost. John had to go to a funeral so he didn't get to go either. Grandma is still in Texas and Hayden can't drive yet. Hayden did get to stay home and babysit the kids. I had Meredith's coach pick her up for the game. Then he dropped her off at Russ's Market because her Girl Scout Troop was ringing bells for Christmas there. The girls' Girl Scout leader picked Stephanie up, then brought both girls home. So I got a lot done today even though I was stuck at work.

Softball Game - June 5, 2012

I didn't get to go to the first game because I had to work so
Grandma took her to that.

But I did get to go to the second game!

Here she is batting!
It's Coach Pitch again this year.

Ready to run home!
Apparently, the helmet was too big.

Soccer Game - April 28, 2012

Usually when we go to soccer games, the other kids run off and I'm left to watch by myself...

Today I had company.

Softball Game

Meredith's game was at 5:30 today. We're supposed to be there 15 minutes before every game. Today was the first day we actually made it on time!

This was a good game today. The girls played very well. The other team played exceptionally well. I'm thinking their coach was NOT a first-time coach. These girls were backing each other up. Our girls don't know what that means yet. One of their girls was about Hayden's size and she was really good. Still, our girls played very well. We had a lot of really good hits and the girls are figuring out that it's a race to first base. Sometimes, they slow down before they get there but they did much better today.

That being said ~ I really, really want to get Meredith on a team with an experienced coach. I want her to have a chance to learn some of this stuff that she should be learning. If I had the time, I would take her out to the park and teach her myself. I don't have that time right now. I am, however, toying with the idea of coaching or assistant coaching myself next year. We'll see about that.

The team we played today was the Blue Jays. (I'm putting that here in case I want to try and get her on this team next year!)

June 12th Softball Game

We got to the game early because they were supposed to take pictures before.
But there was a threat of rain all day so the photographers bailed.
It never did rain during the day.
But now I get to try and get everybody there a half-hour early next week also.

Getting ready to bat.
She doesn't need to warm up.
She already knows how to bat!
And she actually did hit the ball off a coach pitch.
So there.
In this league, the coach pitches 4 times.
If they don't get a hit, then they hit off a tee.
There are no strike-outs.
Which is good, because they still usually have
to be reminded to run the bases!

Catcher.
Yeah. No mask needed. Apparently.

All the other kids were there also.
Cheering on their sister.

No photo of Hayden for some reason.
But if you can read the sidewalk, it says:
"Hayden N. Russell was here!!!"

1st Softball Game - June 5th

Coin Toss
That's Meredith in the red shirt and braids.

Playing Shortstop.

Stephanie entertained the troops.
She simply cannot understand why anyone would want to watch their kid play ball when they could be talking with HER.

Running bases.

Up to bat.

This was the "Cyclones" very first game.
And the very first time they were on an actual field.
They did very well.
Meredith really enjoyed herself.
